Suzuki finally adds five-door Jimny to model range

The Suzuki Jimny has always been a popular and extremely capable off-roader. The only drawback however has always been its practicality, or lack of shall we say. The Japanese automaker has now corrected this, with the all-new five-door Jimny having recently been unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo in India.

Staunch Jimny lovers will be happy to learn that the SUV's off-road capabilities have not been compromised. The overall structural rigidity, power, engine and transmissions choices, ladder frame chassis and the AllGrip four-wheel drive system with low-range have all been retained. Noteworthy, the Jimny boasts 210mm of ground clearance.

The new five-door Jimny is 360mm longer than its two-door sibling, while the wheelbase has been increased by 340mm, now measuring at 2,590mm. The height and width remain unchanged. The new Jimny features an approach angle of 36-degrees, a breakover angle of 24-degrees and a departure angle of 50-degrees.

As a result of the increased dimensions and extra doors, practicality has also been improved. The front seats are now able to fold flat, connecting with the rear seat resulting in two cushioned sleeping spaces.

The five-door Suzuki Jimny will be making its way to local shores in 2023, with a launch date, exact line-up, specifications and pricing to be confirmed at a later stage.
