Sporty new Haval Jolion S arrives in South Africa

The popular Haval Jolion has without a doubt been a success for the brand since its introduction to the local market in 2021. The Chinese manufacturer has now introduced a sportier derivative of the Jolion; the Jolion S. The new model joins the already existing line-up which consists of five models which are powered by the same engine paired to a choice of two transmissions. The new Jolion S boasts a new 1.5-litre motor with increased power outputs and several model specific features.

Improved Styling

Up front, the Jolion S boasts a unique front grille with a chrome honeycomb pattern. Further enhancements include several unique blackened styling elements on the front and rear bumper garnish, side mirror caps, door beadings and roof rails. Sporty 18-inch alloy wheels are fitted and finished in gloss black, shod in 225/55 R 18 tyres.

Premium Interior

Inside, the Jolion S carries over the same impressive level of specification as in the Jolion Super Luxury. Standard fitment includes paddle shifters behind the eco-leather multi-functional steering wheel, a 7.0-inch color instrument cluster, wireless charging, a 12V power outlet and dashcam power outlet and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.

The front seats now benefit from seat heating, with the rear seats offering versatility by means of a 60:40 folding configuration for extra luggage capacity.

Safety and Technology

The Jolion S is fitted with a high level of safety and technology features which include dual and front side airbags, curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, BA, ESC and traction control, anti-roll system, secondary collision mitigation and hill assist.

Driver assistance systems include lane departure alert, lane keeping assist, lane center keeping, blind spot detection, lane change assist and driver fatigue detection. The Jolion S also gains pre-collision warning and automatic emergency braking.

Convenience features include a tyre pressure monitoring system, rear park distance sensors, 360-degree panoramic camera, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, intelligent turning assist and traffic sign recognition. Keyless entry, push button start and an anti-theft alarm system make up the safety and security features.

Engine and Power

As mentioned, the Haval Jolion S now gains a new generation 1.5-litre engine which benefits from an upgraded turbocharger. This has resulted in an increased power bump of 25kW and 60Nm of torque, bringing the total power figures to 130kW and 270Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT which also adds a Launch Control function for the first time.

Various driving modes are on offer in the Jolion S, namely: Standard, Eco, Sports and Snow. Three dynamic steering modes are also on offer, namely: Sport, Comfort and Light.
