Now in its fifth-generation, the popular all-new Kia Sportage is set to continue the three decade long success story with its bold and sporty design, and the safety and technology it has to offer.
Exterior Design
Kia's new design language - Opposites United - is found present on the Sportage and influences every aspect of its appearance and character. Up front, the Sportage boasts Kia's distinctive signature Tiger Nose grille and is flanked by the futuristic-looking boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights. Complimenting these is a set of striking Matrix LED headlights.
The Kia Sportage pays homage to its sports utility roots by means of the side profile creating a stirring road presence with taut lines cutting across clean but refined body surfaces which blend the contrasting volumes together seamlessly.
At the rear, the razor rear taillamps are connected by a slim horizontal design which gives the Sportage a wide impression. Dependent on the model, the striking Sportage sports a choice of either 17, 18 or 19-inch alloy wheels. A choice of 12 exterior colors are on offer, with the addition of new color options such as Experience Green, Orange Fusion and Splash Lemon.
Interior Design
Taking center stage in the cabin of the Sportage is a curved digital display which gives width and depth to the interior. The instrument cluster and infotainment screen both measure 12.3-inches. Kia has used the highest quality of materials in the cabin for a premium look and feel. The ergonomically-friendly center console is optimally positioned for the driver and front passenger, and provides storage, operating system configuration, cup-holders and soft-touch switches. A wireless charging bay is available depending on the model.
The intelligent interior space of the Sportage blends practicality, functionality and versatility. The wheelbase measures 2,680mm with a width of 1,855mm, a length of 4,515mm and a height of 1,650mm. With 996mm of legroom for the second-row, 1000mm of headroom and a luggage capacity of 591L on offer, the all-new Sportage is class-leading in these respective measurements.
Safety
Beneath the skin of the all-new Sportage is a reinforced and lightweight body structure with high torsional rigidity, comprised of high quantities of advanced high strength steel and hot-stamping technology to reinforce safety-critical parts of the passenger compartment, complimented by a raft of active and passive safety features along with advanced driver assistance systems.
All Sportage models include the following as standard: Six airbags, ISOFIX, ABS with EBD and ESC, HAC, DBC and TSA. Convenience safety features include smart entry with push button start and an electric parking brake with auto-hold. Depending on the model, Kia's Advanced Driver Assistance System technology is on offer.
Specification
Kia Sportage LX
Kia Sportage LX models include the following as standard: LED headlamps with auto light control, LED daytime running lights with LED fog lamps, LED taillamps, electrically adjustable and foldable side mirrors with integrated side repeater lamps and 17-inch alloy wheels. A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system is present and includes an integrated reverse camera. Bluetooth connectivity with voice recognition, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also integrated into the infotainment system. Also included in the LX as standard is cruise control, six speakers and a blind spot collision warning system.
Kia Sportage EX
The Sportage EX benefits from a black front grille, front parking sensors and upgraded 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior sees an upgrade in the upholstery, with a combination of cloth and artificial leather now present, even in the armrest and center trim. The front seats gain electric adjustment with a memory function for the driver's seat, along with heated seats for the front row. A heated steering wheel, rear heated seats and privacy glass round up the upgrades in specification in the EX model.
Kia Sportage GT-Line
The Sportage rides on the same 18-inch alloy wheels as on the EX, however adds deluxe scuff plates for an enhanced sportier appearance. Alloy pedals, paddle gear-shifters, an electric tailgate and upholstery which is upgraded to a combination of artificial leather and suede are further specification upgrades to the model. Driver assistance systems are also included such as lane follow assist, lane keeping assist and forward collision-avoidance assist.
Kia Sportage GT-Line Plus
The Sportage GT-Line Plus adds LED interior lamps, a panoramic glass sunroof, sporty 19-inch alloy wheels and gloss black exterior trims.
Kia Sportage GT-Line S
The Sportage GT-Line Plus gains benefits from comfort, convenience and technology upgrades. The interior boasts ventilated seats up front and mood lighting. The gear-shift lever is replaced by a rotary gear-shift dial which uses shift-by-wire technology. This model also benefits from an upgraded Intelligent Front Lighting System.
Smart cruise control is also fitted as standard along with the forward collision-avoidance assist, however in this model the system gains a Junction Turning functionality which will warn the driver if it detects a potential collision when making a turn at an intersection, and thus applying maximum braking.
Engine and Power
The all-new Kia Sportage range is powered by one engine - a 1.6-litre T-GDi petrol motor which is capable of 132kW and 265Nm of torque, mated to Kia's 7-speed dual clutch transmission.
