BMW Nip & Tucks Sporty Z4 Range

BMW has unveiled the nip & tucked Z4 and it will be making its way to South Africa in Q2 2023. The final specification and pricing will be revealed closer to launch date.

Exterior Design

The updated Z4 receives a number of subtle upgrades, with the most visible being to the front end with revised headlights and kidney grille. The kidneys benefit from a horizontal inner structure, enhancing the wide stance of the front end. Standard fitment on even the 4-cylinder models is the M Sport package which includes three-section air intakes up front, distinctive side-sill contouring as well as a rear-end with bold edging on either side.

Distinctive highlights to the Z4 also include large air breathers behind the front wheel arches, an integrated rear boot lid spoiler, slim L-shaped taillights and a rear diffuser. The Z4 M40i model receives Cerium Grey exterior mirror caps and trapezoidal-shaped tailpipes for the exhaust system. The Z4 retains its classic fabric soft-top which may be electronically opened or closed in 10 seconds, at speeds of up to 50km/h. The fabric soft-top may be specified in either standard black or Anthracite Silver.

Standard fitment now also includes 18-inch M light alloy wheels with a double-spoke design. Available optionally are a set of 19-inch M light alloy wheels in a V-spoke design finished in Jet Black matt and diamond polished rim edges. The range of exterior paint colors has been revised and now includes for the first time Thundernight metallic, Portimao Blue metallic and Skyscraper Grey metallic. Furthermore, the range of exterior paint colors also includes four other variants spanning a broad spectrum between white, black, red, grey and the matt BMW Individual Frozen Grey metallic.

The Z4 is now also optionally available with the M lights Shadow Line which may be specified alongside the optional Adaptive LED Headlights. The M lights Shadow Line are complimented by the M high-gloss Shadow Line exterior trim with extended elements.

Interior Design

The drive-focused cabin layout of the BMW Z4 boasts sport seats with integral head restraints and comes as standard with Vernasca leather which may be specified in either Black, Ivory White, Cognac or Magma Red. The sporty Z4 M40i comes as standard in leather/ Alcantara trim with blue contrast stitching and blue piping. The Z4 M40i also includes ambient lighting and M door sill finishers as standard fitment.

The entire model range benefits from seat heating, a wind deflector, extended storage, a through-loading system, park distance control with front and rear sensors, an automatically dimming rear-view mirror and two-zone automatic climate control as standard.

Engines and Power

Engine choices in the updated Z4 will include a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder unit with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology, delivering 145kW and 320Nm of torque in the Z4 sDrive20i. This will allow it to sprint from standstill to 100km/h in 6.6 seconds.

The range-topping Z4 M40i will sport a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder unit with BMW M TwinPower Turbo Technology, delivering 285kW and 500Nm of torque. The Z4 M40i will complete the 0-100km/h sprint in just 4.5 seconds.

Safety and Technology

The BMW Z4 is fitted with wide array of driver assistance systems as standard and these include Front Collision Warning with brake intervention, Lane Departure Warning including lane return and the Speed Limit Info function with no-overtaking indicator. Optionally available is the Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Lane Change Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Crossing Traffic Warning, the Parking Assistant, the Reversing Assist Camera and the BMW Head-Up Display.
